The Bishop Lecture in Bioethics

The University of Michigan Medical School was the beneficiary of funds for the establishment of the Ronald C. and Nancy V. Bishop Lectureship in Bioethics.  Both were graduates of the University of Michigan Medical School (Class of ’44).  Ronald Bishop joined the U-M Medical School faculty in 1951 and pursued a career in research, teaching, and patient care in the Department of Internal Medicine, Hematology Division, until his retirement in 1987.  He served as Director of the Unit for Human Values in Medicine (1981-1984) at the Medical School, and as a visiting scholar at the Hastings Center.  Both Ronald and Nancy were strongly committed to social justice and were active members of the Ann Arbor community.
