CBSSM's Director Reshma Jagsi and colleagues quantified the early impact of COVID-19 on the gender gap in publications. Using mixed-effects regression models, they estimated that women’s shares of first authorships, last authorships and general representation per author group are 23%, 16% and 16% lower for COVID-19 papers compared to 2019 papers published in the same journals. This study was also recently highlighted in the Scientific American.
