There was a lot of exciting programming at the 22nd Annual ASBH Conference, including work from our own Center.  Our own director, Reshma Jagsi gave one of the four invited plenary sessions this year. Other CBSSM presenters include Naomi Laventhal, Kelly Matula, Andrew Shuman, Kayte Spector-Bagdady, as well as former fellows and mentees.

CBSSM's Melissa Creary recently presented "Uncovering Health Disparities" as part of the "Life through a Pandemic" COVID-19 Video Conference Series hosted by the Detroit Health Department.

Check out this Michigan Online course "Foundational Skills for Communicating About Health" tought by CBSSM's Associate Director, Brian Zikmund-Fisher. In this course, Dr. Zikmund-Fisher discusses how intersections between health, communication, and storytelling can help patients and healthcare workers.

CBSSM's Director, Reshma Jagsi, MD, DPhil was recently honored as LEAD 2020 Woman Oncologist of the Year. This award honors a senior professional who is a respected individual in her field and who has modeled excellence in leadership.

In a recent Journal of General Internal Medicine article, Rod Hayward and CBSSM's Tanner Caverly review the strong evidence indicating a need, in the primary care context, for a shared decision making (SDM) approach that takes less time than current more detailed SDM models. They offer a compromise proposal called "everyday SDM" for PCPs who value the goals of SDM, but find they are not engaging in SDM because of limited time.
