The Virtuous Researcher: How a Virtue Philosophy of Science Can Help Reframe How We Understand Research Integrity.
Philosophy of science has mostly focused on the nature of scientific theories and methods, but it behooves us to also think about the character of the scientist. A virtue philosophy of science that includes both epistemic and ethical values can help identify the "practiced dispositions" that scientists ought to cultivate for scientific research to flourish. This view suggests that there is an important role for philosophy in STEM education; the Vocational Virtues Project has developed and tested a novel model for responsible conduct of research training based on this approach.
