CBSSM co-director Angela Fagerlin, PhD, was quoted in an LA Times article on the use of tamoxifen and raloxifene by healthy women who are concerned about developing breast cancer. Fagerlin indicated that some subjects in her research weren't convinced that the benefits of taking tamoxifen were real, or that they would realize the benefits.  She noted the mistrust some women voiced about pharmaceutical companies in online comments to an editorial she wrote about the medications.

Yong Li, PhD was a visiting scholar at CBSSM for the 2012-2013 academic year. Dr. Li is the Director of The Center for Bioethics and Health Law, School of Health Policy and Management, at Nanjing Medical University. Dr. Li earned a PhD at Nanjing University in China. His research interests focus on the doctor-patient relationship, research ethics, and healthcare policy and law.

Peter Ubel was published in the New York Times with his op-ed peice, "Doctor, First Tell Me What It Costs," which deals with money and medicine. Dr. Ubel served as the Director of the University of Michigan Center for Behavioral and Decision Sciences in Medicine (CBDSM) from 2005-2010. CBSSM was established in July 2010 through the merger of CBDSM and the Bioethics Program.

Michele Gornick, VA/CBSSM Postdoctoral Fellow, recently received a multidisciplinary career development award as part of MICHR’s Postdoctoral Translational Scholars Program (PTSP). This opportunity is designed to prepare individuals with a PhD in a biomedical science or social science discipline for independent careers in translational research. It also provides a $100,000 career development award to be used over 2-3 years.  Michele will work under the direction of a research mentoring team including Angie Fagerlin, Scott Roberts and Brian Zikmund-Fisher, as well as Elena Stoffel as her clinical mentor. Congratulations Michele!
