CBSSM Co-Director Raymond De Vries presented at the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues on Sept. 2 about how to insure that the public has a voice in creating bioethics policies.

The September 2nd Presidential Commission meeting in Washington, DC, including Dr. De Vries's talk on the topic of "Fostering and Measuring Success in Ethics and Deliberation", is now available to be viewed online.

CBSSM staff member Tolu Olorode will be presenting on results from the Deliberative Engagement of Communities in Decisions about Research Spending (DECIDERS) project with 47 focus groups across Michigan  on what communities would like to see funded in regards to health research. The DECIDERS group is looking for feedback on how best to present these findings across the state and at conferences as well as additional questions for analysis.

CBSSM's Co-Director Raymond De Vries' article, "Giving (Bits of) Your Self to Medicine" was published in Medicine at Michigan. In this article, Dr. De Vries discusses biobank consent and moral concerns related to biobank research.

Lisa Szymecko joined CBSSM in May 2012 as a Research Area Specialist Intermediate, working as the study coordinator for Susan Goold on the DECIDERS and PCORI projects.


Lisa earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University, her Juris Doctorate from Detroit College of Law, and her PhD in Resource Development from Michigan State University.

Erin joined CBSSM in November 2014. Her work at the Center included assisting Dr. Susan Goold on several grant funded research projects related to Medicaid expansion and community-based research around health and health research priorities.
 
She received her Master’s in Public Health from the Colorado School of Public Health and has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology, with a minor in Health and Nutrition from Northern Michigan University.

Fraukje Mevissen, PhD

Alumni

Fraukje Mevissen is an Assistant Professor in Applied Psychology at Maastricht University, Dept. of Work and Social Psychology. Dr. Mevissen was a Visiting Scholar at CBSSM from January-July 2014. For her PhD, she studied risk communication and risk perception regarding sexually transmitted infections among young adults at the department of Health Education and Promotion. She then continued as a postdoc researcher at the W&SP department, focusing on development and evaluation of behavioral/health interventions.

Aaron Scherer, PhD

Dr. Aaron Scherer was a CBSSM Postdoctoral Research Fellow, 2014-2016. Aaron earned his PhD in Psychology from the University of Iowa and utilizes methodologies from social psychology, social cognition, and neuropsychology to study the causes and consequencdees of biased beliefs. His current research has focused on the causes and consequences of biased beliefs regarding health and politics.
