Dr. Lewis Morgenstern is Professor of Neurology, Epidemiology, Emergency Medicine and Neurosurgery at the University of Michigan Medical School and School of Public Health.  He is Vice Chair of Neurology for Faculty Development and Finance.  He is a widely recognized leader in the field of Health Disparities Research and has been Principal Investigator of the NIH funded Brain Attack Surveillance in Corpus Christi (BASIC) project since 1999.  He has published over 130 original, peer-reviewed manuscripts in the areas of health services clinical trials, stroke epidemiology and clinical studies of intracerebral hemorrhage.  He has served as the principal mentor for several NIH K23 awardees.  Dr. Morgenstern is the immediate past Chair of the American Heart Association International Stroke Conference, a yearly meeting of 4,500 attendees.  He recently chaired the writing committee for the American Heart Association flagship Guideline on the Treatment of Intracerebral Hemorrhage.  Dr. Morgenstern also recently chaired the External Advisory Board on Health Disparities Research for the National Institutes of Neurologic Disorders and Stroke.
