Scott Roberts has been appointed co-chair of the Michigan Dementia Coalition (MDC). The MDC is a statewide group of more than 120 individuals from approximately 65 organizations that works to identify opportunities to improve quality of life for Michigan residents with dementia and their families.

The MDC has just released a comprehensive Roadmap for Creating a Dementia-Capable Michigan to guide policymaking and advocacy efforts around dementia in Michigan.

Congratulations to CBSSM-affiliated investigators on recent promotions! Lisa Harris is now Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Jeremy Sussman is now Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Sarah Vordenberg is now Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy.

The American Cancer Society is launching a campaign that will specifically fund the work of women in cancer research — an effort named the “ResearcHERS™: Women Fighting Cancer” campaign.
ResearcHERS seeks contributions from donors that will exclusively support women’s cancer research — ensuring women will continue to make significant scientific contributions to help save lives from all types of cancer.

The ACS launched the Michigan portion of its campaign with a kick-off event at the Kensington Hotel in Ann Arbor earlier this month.

ACS put the spotlight on CBSSM's Director Reshma Jagsi and her patient, Tess Downie. The two helped to highlight the importance of cancer research funding and how those funds specifically aid women during their careers.

 

There was also a panel discussion featuring CBSSM's Sarah Hawley.

The UM neonatal ethics lab faculty, fellows, and students were well-represented at the 2019 Pediatric Academic Societies annual meeting, which took place in Baltimore, MD. CBSSM authors included Naomi Laventhal, Stephanie Kukora, and Michele Gornick.

Congratulations to Jeff Kullgren! He is a recent recipient of an Early Career Award for his participation in the 15th International Congress of Behavioral Medicine in Santiago, Chile. Early Career Awards are granted to promising researchers and clinicians early in their careers, to stimulate and encourage further career development within the field of Behavioral Medicine. He also received the 2018 Midwest SGIM Award for Excelllence in Clinician Investigation.
